Accessibility
The Turbine has been designed to be accessible, user-friendly and safe for all people regardless of their age, gender, mobility, ethnicity or circumstances, and complies fully with the requirements of the Disability Discrimination Act. We're committed to meeting all our customers' needs and value customer feedback on how we can improve the services we provide.
Car parking
The Turbine has two car park areas, both containing a number of designated parking spaces for people with disabilities. The visitors parking area at the front of the building has three designated spaces, and the main car park at the rear of the building has four designated spaces, all of which are located within a few metres of the entrance doors, which in turn have level access.
Entry to building
The main (visitors) entrance to the building is from the front (north elevation) and is easily identifiable, with wide automatic doors giving access to the main reception area. The rear (tenants/delegates) entrance is located in the centre of the building and is clearly signed "Entrance". Bench seating is located either side of the rear entrance door. Access to the reception area via the rear entrance is by security token or by request.
Reception facilities
Once inside the building, a staffed reception desk can be found and help is on hand in order to contact resident companies or for directions to conference rooms. The reception area has a low desk and a flat tiled floor allowing easy access to the conference room and facilities on the ground floor. Seating is conveniently located throughout the reception area.
Access to upper level
The building has accommodation over two floors. Access to the upper floor is available via a lift located to the left of the reception area and a central stairwell (other secure stairwells are available for tenants' use throughout the building). A change to wall colour identifies stair head/landings and corridors throughout the building. There is level access around both floors of the building. All conference and meeting room accommodation is located on the ground floor.
Getting around the building
With wide corridors, our modern and light building allows for ease of access. However please note that, with the security token access to corridors and manual doors, should problems be encountered staff are available for assistance.
Washrooms
Washrooms are located throughout the building. Disabled persons' toilet facilities are located on both floors together with accessible showers and a wet room.
Catering
The Turbine's own cafe/bistro opens from 8.00am to 2.00pm and offers hot and cold food, drinks and snacks. All food is freshly prepared on the premises and caters for a wide range of dietary requirements. The cafe area is located on the first floor and can be accessed directly from the lift or central stairway.
Tenants' access
Tenants have 24/7 access to the building, although access after normal office hours is restricted to the rear entrance only by electronic security token. There is a member of staff or a security officer on duty 24 hours a day to assist tenants and visitors as required.
Emergency procedures
Currently, the Turbine's fire alarm system operates by means of a sounder notification, although the disabled persons toilet facilities also have visual notification. Whilst the lift can easily facilitate access to the cafe/bistro area and offices on the first floor, it is not designed for emergency evacuation of persons from the building. In the event of an evacuation, the Turbine does have evacuation chairs which are located in the stairwells of the rear landings and fire exit stairs, to be used by trained staff only.
Special access requirements
Should you consider that you might have a need for special access arrangements, then please contact the Turbine to discuss your needs with the centre staff.
